The Ashland Figure Skating Team is a competitive artistic roller skating club that has been in existence since 1986. We also have a pre-competitive club. Listed below are some of the highlights of the team.
For the latest information, see www.AshlandSkateTeam.org
Skaters are trained in the artistic disciplines of Figures, Loops, Dance,
Freestyle, and Creative Solo Dance. With the arrival of the new artistic inline
skate, our skaters are also trained in Inline Freestyle and Inline Solo Creative
Dance.
The Ashland Figure Skating Team travels to Local, Regional, and National
championships each year.
The focus of the competitive program at Ashland Skateland is on developing and
experiencing those competitive skills that will benefit the skater later in
life.
The Ashland Figure Skating Team is a dedicated group of young people who learn
every day the value of courage, strength (internal and external), perseverance,
and pride.
These skaters work very hard and attend practice sessions almost daily, while
maintaining their grades and other extracurricular activities such as
gymnastics, dance, and swimming.
These skater's also develop a love of exercise and a feeling of physical well
being. In the process of this development, these young people will travel, win
medals, and have a great time developing friendships and teamwork.
About our Coach
Stephanie Moore
Stephanie has been the head coach of the Ashland Figure Skating Team since 1991.
She is originally from Pennsylvania, where she skated in the Eastern Region for
10 competitive seasons.
Stephanie has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in
Counseling. Her educational background has been an asset in teaching children
the important lessons that youth sports can provide.
Pre-Competitive Club
The skater who has mastered the skills taught in our three-level class
program is eligible to join the pre-competitive club, also known as Junior Club.
This program is designed to prepare the skater for the competitive program.
However, some skaters chose not to compete and continue in this lesson to earn
their achievement test medals in house. These skaters are members of the
competitive club and pay club dues which entitle them to the following:
One hour group lesson which covers Junior Olympic level skating skills (20
minutes of compulsory figures, 20 minutes of dance skating, and 20 minutes of
freestyle training)
Eligible to attend any of the six open practice sessions held throughout the
week
Skaters may bridge from the Pre-Competitive Club program to the competitive
program in June of each year as their skills develop and the coach finds them
competitive for their age group.
Upon entering the competitive program, skaters will receive private lessons and
will begin preparing routines and polishing the elements necessary to be
successful in a competitive setting.
